Inspiration in an Oregon Backyard

This summer wedding inspiration has all our favorite details for a warm weather celebration: outdoor setting, seasonal fruits, grilled entrees, and soft flowers.  Here are some thoughts from the photoshoot team on how they came up with and executed their vision:

Oregon is home to dozens of natural wonders, from the deserts and painted hills out east, to the canyons and gorges up north, the windy coast to the west, and the gorgeous mountainscapes in between. With so many options in our backyard, it seems obvious to create a destination ceremony at home.  Although Oregon doesn’t lack in natural diversity, this shoot needed a European flair to offset the rustic wilderness. We found ourselves on the border of Oregon and Washington at Howell Territorial Park on Sauvies Island.  This beautiful venue had everything we needed: orchard trees, a big white house, a field to play in, and sun. Taking time to reflect on what marriage has been like, this styled shoot felt quite near a vow renewal.  To get the ball rolling, Brenna Burnett started a Pinterest board of inspiration for the shoot.  We were immediately drawn the rosy pinks of a Grecian sunset, the grey blues found in European architecture, and the rich ivy greens.  Brenna incorporated these hues as she designed the florals using fluffy ranunculus, blueish baby eucalyptus, italian ruscus, and romantic garden roses.

The details were our favorite part to hunt down. Between the rentals from Lavenda B, Esty searches, and pure luck we found lots of charming elements. Brandy of Lavenda B Rentals provided miscellaneous and mismatch platters, trays, and goblets, while the ribbon spool, ring box, and sweetheart table gave a nod to classic elegance. Our favorite detail was the blue chair by the orchard trees with its pop of whimsy and royalty.

In lieu of a traditional cake or pie, Lesley of Gingerhead Cookies crafted a decedent pavlova. The meringue was sweet and tart on its own, but the color and texture provided by the pistachios, figs, and pomegranate seeds made everyone swoon. Figs are not only beautiful and tasty, they are a signature fruit in many European dishes.  For an extra luxe dessert table, we offered a lemon fig bundt cake, baklava, apple tarts, and an assortment of macarons alongside the pavlova. The menu continued the Mediterranean flavor with chicken kabobs, hearts of romaine, spanakopita wedges, prosciutto wrapped figs, and balsamic figs.

Peggy of The Pigeon Letters crafted an exquisite invitation suite, place cards, and food labels.  The decked edges of the linen paper and hand drawn ivy tendrils nodded to the rustic outdoor venue. Working with vendors on a collaborative shoot on a gorgeous day, is a great  way to network and show off our talents.
