Family Get-Together Wedding | by Lukas + Suzy VanDyke | www.smittenmagazine.com Woodstock Farm’s old farm buildings, hillsides, and water views made an ideal venue for this DIY wedding.  Often brides set on saving money and armed with a hot glue gun take on a laundry list of projects that are “must haves” for their wedding.  This technique often results in symptoms of bridezilla-itis and many sleepless night.  But this bride took the DIY concept and made it smart, relaxed, and full of thoughtful details.  By utilizing the resources of friends and family, Danielle and Michael created a charming wedding with the cozy feeling of love.  Lukas and Suzy VanDyke captured all of the adoring smiles, hand picked flowers (from friends’ gardens and the farmer’s market), and the talented groom designed the invites.

From the Bride –

I first fell in love with Woodstock Farm last year when one of my best friends chose it for her wedding day. Michael and I loved how we didn’t need to worry about decorations, as its natural beauty spoke for itself. The old farm buildings, the trees, the grassy hills, the water, the islands are all so beautiful on their own. We were also excited that this location gave the dozens of out-of-town guests a real Pacific Northwest experience. Being on the ocean, surrounded by evergreen trees, and feasting on local salmon for dinner.

The little decorating that we did provide was focused on the tables. They were a mix of fancy (white table cloths and napkins) and casual (wood cutlery and paper plates). The centerpieces were from flowers we collected from friends’ yards, the sides of roads, and a farmer’s market in town the day before. The whole wedding felt like us because it’s kind of how we decorate at home: lots of white, green, wood and natural pieces. We didn’t use many vendors on the big day, but relied on our friends and family to use their gifts. For instance, Michael’s mom made the chocolates that we gave as wedding favours, and my friend drew the groom & bride that we used as a cake topper. Michael designed the wedding invitations himself, using my Pinterest-inspired ideas.

As we planned for our day, Michael kept referring to it as ‘kind of a fancy family get-together.’ I think that perfectly sums up our beautiful day.”
