When two musicians tie the knot, you know you’re in for an entertaining wedding. Here, the bride recounts her California wedding with it’s casual outdoor BBQ and epic dance party.
Our wedding day was truly overwhelming for both of us – to be surrounded by so much love, laughter, and tears by our very favorite people was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Before getting married, our goal was to throw an epic barbecue-dance-party-love-fest in the countryside. And I will never forget how profusely I sweat on that dance floor with my new husband and my family and our best friends, hair a frizzy mess, dress bustle broken and train dragging on the floor, beer in hand, jumping up and down like an absolute maniac. Mike and I, both musicians ourselves, have some insanely talented singer-friends, who got up and sang with our band and totally brought the house down. At one point I was up there rapping, thanks in part to our mixologist groomsman who designed and pre-mixed some very strong wedding cocktails. I don’t think I’ve ever danced so hard in my life. And then to look across the dance floor and see my grandma gettin’ down? What greater joy is there? But what surprised both Mike and I was how much our ceremony took a front-seat that day. We had our closest family and friends give us 7 wedding blessings, as is Jewish tradition, in non-traditional ways – we were presented with art, readings, meaningful symbols – it was important to us that our ceremony felt communal, inclusive, and personal. And standing in front of those who know us best, the people who have shaped us and lifted us up throughout our 6 years as a couple and throughout our lives, reading the vows we wrote to each other was… powerful beyond belief. We will never forget what those moments felt like, for as long as we live.”
